Pernille Tranberg is an independent speaker and advisor in data democracy, data ethics, data understanding and digital self-defense. She speaks to school kids and teachers, politicians, officials and NGOs, business leaders and multinationals.

She is the co-founder of the European thinkdotank DataEthics.eu and is often cited as expert source in the press.

She’s appointed by the Danish Ministry of Business to be part of the expert group on big tech between 2022-2024. She pro bono in the advisory board of The Data For Good Foundation and part of the national advisory board of Danish Data Science Academy. She is also in the ethical advisory board of the EU funded project Communicity.

She teaches pupils and teachers data understanding and working with research ethics (dataforgood.science).

She does two columns on digital media a month for the national Danish daily Politiken and one quarterly column on tech for Prosabladet.

She is former tech and investigative reporter at Politiken (1996-2005), editor-in-chief  TÆNK (2005-2009) (Danish small equivalent to ConsumerReport and Stiftungwarentest), Head of editorial development at Berlingske Media (2009-2013), journalistic fellow SDU (2013-2014 – where she wrote about a trustmark for news) and special Consultant in The Danish Business Authority (2014-2015) .

She holds a Master in journalism from Columbia University New York (1995), a BA from the Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus (1994), and she is ‘Academy Economist’ from Niels Brocks Handelsakademi (1988).

She has written 8 books: the latest is ‘A Data Democracy Comes With Individual Data Control’ (2021). Before that ‘DataEthics – The new Competitive Advantage’ (2016) with Gry Hasselbalch. She co-authored with Steffan Heuer ‘Fake It’ (2012, Peoples Press) about big data and digital selfdefense. It was published in four languages and was on the bestseller list in both Denmark and Germany and had three editions in German.

She is an internationally acknowledged speaker and has spoken about digital self-defense at TEDxOXFORD. Here is her TedX-talk (2012) and presented her book Fake It at SXSW in 2013.
